Medication adherence is a problem in achieving disease control and preventing negative events.

What is Medication adherence?  Why is the best pill dispenser needed? First of all, Adherence is crucial for men and women who have conditions.  Second of all, this is especkially true among people who are taking complex specialty “life-saving” medications.  For example, missing just one dose might cause a patient with multiple sclerosis experiences a relapse.  Another example, miss dosing may lead to a  trigger for a disease progression like cancer.

Although numerous smartphone-based technologies have emerged to help patients track their doses.  The Med-Q ” best pill dispenser” is an example of a good pill reminder.  Smart apps will help to remind to refill  prescriptions.  Hence, pharmacists are able to play an important, if not vital, l role in improving medication adherence.  In conclusion, this has been proven in an analysis by Johns Hopkins Medicine.

When you’re using several medications, be proactive

Jesy Menney, PharmD,  pharmacy specialist at  Johns Hopkins Hospital is also a  certified geriatric pharmacist.  She says, “Taking medications as directed by your doctor, getting refills on time, and staying alert to side effects and interactions all help keep you healthy.”   Here are 4 recommendations for ways in which pharmacists can help patients better stick to  their treatment schedule:

1. Try to get Medications and Supplements from only One pharmacy

Henceforth,  this ensures that all patient information as well as history is at one location.  Furthermore, this will aid the pharmacists in preventing  negative events. In fact, every new prescription raises the risk drug-drug negativeinteraction. To sum up, this lets your pharmacists  better track  progress over time.

2. Recommend the use of best pill dispensers or medication reminders

The best pill dispenser has compartments for each day of the week.  However, the best pill dispenser is more than a pill  organizer.  A Automatic Pill Dispenser like the MED-Q has flashing Guides and Blasting Alarms.  A smart pill dispenser can greatly reduce the chances of errors.  For example, MED-Q has a compliance rate of over 98%.   Patients who post a reminder to their refrigerator or make it part of their daily routine are going to make errors.

3. Always get early refills if possible

To illustrate, getting to the pharmacy may be a problem.  Again, a barrier to medication adherence. Try to get medication refills at a scheduled time.  First, use the same time of the month or every 60 days.  Subsequently, research has shown that men and women are less likely to forget to refill their prescription if on a time schedule., according to the article. To sum up, if used properly,  you personal pharmacists play a critical role in medication synchronization.

4.Always have an updated a medication list

Patients should keep a list of medications they take, including the name of the drug, the dosage, when they take it, and what condition it is for, according to the article. Pharmacists should advise patients to give a copy to their physician and loved ones in case of an emergency. This can allow providers to quickly determine whether side effects or interactions may occur.

5. Give yearly “brown bag” medication reviews

 medication adherence

Patients should have an annual pharmacist review.  Many call this a “brown bag trip” to the pharmacist.  All the  medications , OTC drugs, dietary supplements or anything else that goes in the best pill dispenser. need to be checked.  Take them for an annual review at the pharmacy. Pharmacists can make sure that patients are taking the proper medications.  They will know if the OTC treatments or vitamins are diminishing the efficacy of important therapies.

Just what he needed!

I bought this (MED-Q Best Pill Dispenser) for my husband as a Christmas gift. He is diabetic and takes some other meds both in the morning and evening. He works from home, and would often get busy and forget to take his pills. Now, he has the dispenser set and it beeps loudly enough that he can hear it from his office! The timers also assure he takes the medication at regular intervals. It’s small enough, and with the handy tote that came with it, we can take it when we travel. A great device and well worth the price!!!

The best pill dispenser
By Hazel

The best pill dispenser! Bought this for my mother, who had trouble remembering which day of the week it was. Can be set for medication taken once a day or twice a day. The pill box for the appropriate day lights up in red & the dispenser beeps until the pills are taken. Turning off the “beep” automatically sets the best pill dispenser for the next scheduled time. As my mother is easily confused, once I set the schedule, I covered that portion of the unit’s buttons with paper & tape so that the only button exposed was the one she needed to press to turn off the “beep”. Setting the time/date schedule is a little tricky as you only have a few seconds to move from date to time to day of week, etc. If you hesitate, the unit goes back to default & you have to start all over again. Would suggest watching one of the Med Q pill dispenser videos on You Tube to help walk you through the scheduling set up. Once the schedule is set, this product can’t be beat.
